News

If you've visited the chat lately, you probably noticed some changes! In an effort to clean up/organize the chat and account, we cleared out the classes, renamed them, and moved everyone back to Guests. To be listed as a Regular now, you must actually join the chat sometimes and be somewhat active, as well as watch this account, etc.

:bulletred: If you used to be listed as a Regular or were in one of the custom classes, you may request from an Operator or Moderator to be promoted again. You may also request to be listed in one of the specialized classes, which can be viewed here: chat.deviantart.com/manage/Dig…

Moderators?!

You heard right! #DigitalMedia has a new class for Moderators that will be separate from Operators. The two classes will have different responsibilities; the Operators will be working on non-chat projects such as Art Collections and contests, while the Moderators will be focusing on chat activity and events such as the Themed Art Challenges.

We haven't just cleaned out the regular user classes, but did an inventory of our current Team to see who would be staying around. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for you), this has left us with several open positions. We are officially opening up applications for new Moderators! If you're interested in helping out, read the FAQ and directions, and fill out the application!

Moderator FAQ

For some reason, using the p tag to separate paragraphs in this section is breaking the divs. If you can figure out why, please note us. Sorry for this big wall of text.

How long do I have to apply?
We will be accepting applications until we feel that we have all the help needed. We are not promoting a certain number of people or by any certain time--it will simply depend on when all of our current needs are met. Applications may stay open for a month or two, or maybe only two weeks, so get yours in ASAP! First come, first serve!

What does a Moderator do?
A Moderator of #DigitalMedia is responsible for the following:
* In a very basic sense, Moderators are responsible for chat moderation. Moderators will keep a close eye on the chat, making sure the rules are being followed. They will answer guest questions about the chat and rules, and make sure everyone is having an all-around great experience.
* One of the most important responsibilities of a Moderator is doing what they can to keep the chat active. They will do so by keeping active, themselves, and encouraging conversation. They should greet each Regular returning to the chat, and especially attempt to welcome any new Guests and do all you can to make sure they stick around and return.
* Moderators will be expected to keep updated on current happenings. This involves participating in discussions, meetings, and being active in the chat. Moderators must also work well with the current team.
* Moderators will NOT be dealing with non-chat related projects such as the Art Collections or Interviews. They will participate in chat events to moderate, but will not be expected to run the events themselves. Moderators are expected to participate in the creation of events and projects by giving the Operators their feedback and ideas, but Operators will be the ones dealing directly with coordinating these events or projects.

Have I been a Regular long enough to apply?
In the past, we've recruited long-time members from the chat to our team. This is no longer the case. Regardless of your time spent in the chat or community, if you'd like to join our team, we'd be glad for your support! Your personality and dedication is more important to us, at this time, than your length of involvement.

Why are there now Operators and Moderators?
In the past, the #DigitalMedia Team were listed as Operators, but the classes are now being split due to different responsibilities. #DigitalMedia and DMchat are more than just a chat room--we are a community. As such, some of the Operators focus more of their time on helping develop projects and events in the background than actively moderating the chat. Moderation and daily activity in the chat will now be the responsibility of Moderators.

At this time, we have all of the help we need with projects and are looking for active chatters to help moderate the chat and keep the chat active! We do promote solely from within, so if you're interested in helping with the projects and events, you must be a Moderator first and then be promoted to Operator.

If you have any questions not answered here, feel free to leave a comment to the journal or note us directly with the subject "Application Question".

By the ways... The "Chat Now" button in the Journal is broken. I think it's linking incorrectly...
